Imagination of Salvation: Actions on the Land
In Imagination of Salvation: Actions on the Land, I collaborated with local partners in Al Azraq—once a thriving desert oasis in Eastern Jordan, now severely impacted by three decades of groundwater over-pumping. As the springs have dried, bird migration, fishing, and the transitional salt mining industry that once sustained this community have all but vanished. Each year, water flows briefly to Al Azraq through Wadi Rajil, carried by rains from the Syrian mountains. These fleeting moments bring both flash floods and sudden bursts of life—short-lived blooms that vanish quickly into the sand. Still, visions of what Al Azraq once was—and what it could become—are stirring
This work explores a visual language grounded in mind, body, and heart-centered knowledge—an invitation to move beyond disempowerment and imagine pathways toward change. It unfolded alongside a technical assessment of Managed Aquifer Recharge and the potential revival of salt harvesting as a sustainable industry.
